The unrestrained growth of spiritual illnesses in the 21st century is the result not only of stress and scientific and technological progress with its “information overload,” but also of people's departure from God and their sinful lives.
Although mental illness affects a significant proportion of the population, often with debilitating or even life-threatening consequences and complications, recent research has shown that individuals and organizations who are skeptical about the causes and consequences of mental illness continue to resist addressing the topic. The World Health Organization estimates that one in four people in the world suffers or will suffer from a mental or neurological disorder, and research has shown that mental illness is closely linked to the onset and course of many with the onset and course of many chronic diseases, including diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular disease, asthma and obesity, as well as devastating outcomes such as suicide. It is estimated that nearly one million people worldwide commit suicide each year, and most experts agree that at least 90% of all suicides are related to mental health disorders.
Psychological illness is a heavy cross to bear. The mystery of its origin and its spiritual significance cannot yet be fully defined. Neuropsychiatric disorders of the order of neurosis occupy the first place among psychological diseases, among which a significant percentage is occupied by neuroses. According to the World Health Organization, about 10% of the population of industrialized countries suffers from neuroses, and over the past 65 years, their number has increased 24 times. Neuroses, like an epidemic, are spreading everywhere. It is known that from 30 to 65% of general practitioners' visitors are people with neurotic symptoms. There is a sad joke among specialists who study this pathology: instead of asking whether a person suffers from neurosis, they should ask: “what form of neurosis do you suffer from?” The problems associated with neurosis have been actively considered in the last ten years. The attitude to this disease as a mild mental disorder is changing significantly. The principle of functionality (simple reversibility) is not supported by modern clinical practice. According to published data, recovery from neuroses occurs in less than half of cases. It has been found that only 10% of patients recover in the first three years of the disease. Often, this suffering lasts for years and even decades.
