In Ukraine the Russian Orthodox Church operates under the name of the UOC, promoting the ideology of the russkiy mir. Within this ideological framework, the calendar functions as a sacralized instrument intended to impose a sense of spiritual unity between the Ukrainian and Russian peoples. This article examines the influence of the Moscow Patriarchate in Ukraine, which employs the Julian calendar as a mechanism for disseminating the russkiy mir ideology. It identifies the saints and commemorative events used to advance this ideological agenda and to provide a theological and historical justification for Russia’s war against Ukraine. The study also highlights the activities of the clergy of the Moscow Patriarchate in Ukraine and their propagation of the russkiy mir ideology, which is both anti-state and anti-ecclesial in character.
