The article is devoted to the history of ancient church singing in Kyiv. The connection with the Byzantine tradition through written musical sources and the development of monody singing before the appearance of partesny polyphony in the Ukrainian lands as a connection with the European tradition are considered. Myths about the ancient tradition of singing have been debunked. Based on the works of Ukrainian musicologists and philologists, which reveal the features of the ancient Ukrainian edition of Kyiv sacred singing.
