The article examines the policy of the Soviet atheist authorities in the Lviv region towards the revived Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church and the legalised Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in the late1980s and early 1990s. In particular, the article studies the methods of anti-religious propaganda of the Soviet state leadership among the population of the Lviv region, and highlights the restrictions imposed by the authorities on religious communities and the authorities’ interference in the activities of religious organizations in the region in general.
