The author of the article claims that the translation and creation of liturgical texts in the modern literary Ukrainian language is a problem, for the successful solution of which there is a number of prerequisites. Based on his own experience in this field, the researcher identifies five main, in his opinion, prerequisites: to create a professional commission and ensure its work: no matter how valuable the creative experience of an individual translator is, the creation of high-quality and acceptable liturgical texts in Ukrainian for the majority of church communities still requires the presence of a team that would work step by step to solve this problem: translate, edit and create liturgical texts; create a Greek-Slavic-Ukrainian dictionary of theological terminology which is actively used in liturgical texts; determine the role of Slavonicisms in new translations (this is not only about separate Slavic lexemes and phraseological units, which should become the material of the corresponding dictionary due to their uniqueness and untranslatability, this refers to the whole layer of Slavicisms that color the liturgical speech from an artistic and stylistic point of view); determine the texts of the Holy Scriptures which translators and hymnographers will use during their work (first of all, one should pay attention to the Psalter and the text of the New Testament: quotations, individual verses from these texts or paraphrases of them are often found in liturgical literature); determine places of potential liturgical approbation of translated and created texts. The author dwells on each of these prerequisites and at the end expresses the hope that the Ukrainian language in liturgical practice will become the subject of close attention for the domestic academic scientific circle.
